Network marketing is an industry which has gotten a bad reputation over the years and it’s about time that I set the record and tell you why network marketing sucks for most people and how you can make it work for you.
Did you know that 97% of people who get started in network marketing never make their initial investment back?
With a 3% success rate, it’s no wonder there are so many people out there who are quick to tell you what a scam this industry is and why you should avoid getting involved.
So why do network marketing companies continue to thrive and so many people look to start new network marketing businesses each year despite these shocking statistics and terrible reputation?
I believe that most people are drawn to network marketing because there is no other business model on the planet that has the potential for the average person to get started with a small investment and create more wealth than they ever could working their 9-5 job.
Most people are ambitious and want more than what they currently have, they are tired of living paycheck to paycheck and when they listen to a recruiting call or watch a network marketing sales video, they believe that this is the solution they have been looking for to finally work for themselves and live the life they have always dreamed of.
Huge commission checks, luxury vacations, expensive cards are just some of the incentives that network marketing opportunities use to convince you to sign up and then the first thing the teach you if you do decide to sign up is to pressure you family and friends to take the plunge with you.
The main problem with this business model is that the majority of people do not have a clue how to be successful in this business and end up either quitting when they do not see the results they had envisioned when they signed up.
I don’t want you to be yet another statistic in the growing number of network marketing failures so I am going to do you a solid and tell you what you need to stop doing and what you need to start doing if you want to have any chance of success in this business.
Why Network Marketing Sucks
Network marketing is one of the oldest business models on the planet and has continued to thrive for so long because of the simple fact that their is no other business model which provides the opportunity for ordinary people from all walks of life to create an extraordinary levels of wealth.
This business model doesn’t care who you are, where you come from or even how much education you have, anyone can succeed with network marketing once they have the right skill set and have the ambition and drive to do whatever it takes to be successful.
This is where most people go wrong with their network marketing businesses, they never take the time to develop the proper skill set and rely heavily on their sponsors advice on how to run their business, which is fine as long as your sponsor knows what they are doing but sadly most do not.
Every sponsor I have ever had has told me to do the same generic things to get my business off the ground, make a list of everyone you know and contact them about your offer and tell everyone you come in contact with each day about your offer, the old always be selling approach.
In my opinion, that is the worst advice you could follow and will surely lead you down the wrong path from the start.
Stop harassing your friends, family and co-workers about buying your products and signing up for your “amazing opportunity”!
I know that hitting up the people closest to you is what your sponsor told you to do but they could really care less about how it will impact your relationships, all they care about is the extra commissions they will earn when you start bringing in sales.
The idea behind selling to the people you already know makes sense on the surface because you should feel more comfortable approaching people you have already established a relationship with and you can use those sales to build momentum which can carry forward and get you off to a good start.
The problem is that most people expect that their friends, family and co-workers will instantly say yes just to support you, but when they say no, feelings get hurt and the good relationships can quickly go south.
A couple other reasons that I see which contribute to the high failure rate in network marketing are:
- Not treating your network marketing business as a real business – this is just as much a real business as a typical brick and mortar business and should treated the same, which means establishing a business plan and getting your business organized.
- Believing your business will take off instantly – network marketing is a long term business model not a get rich quick scheme, you want to build your network marketing business slowly as this is the only way you will able to ensure that each of your new team members will get the proper level of attention and training they need to go on to be successful and productive. If you try to build your business too fast they it is inevitable that most of your new signups will not get the level of support they need to be successful.
- Failure to take action – you decide to go against the advice I have provided for you and follow the advice of your sponsor and build that stupid list of everyone you know, you go through your entire list and get a few sales, then what? What do you do when you have gone through your entire list and have no other leads to follow up on? Your sponsor will probably tell you to go back through your list and contact everyone who said no the first time and keep trying because they do not know what to do either. Instead you should break free from the norm and learn how to actually create your own leads and take action on what you learn. There are millions of people who would love to hear about your network marketing opportunity, you just have to learn how to get yourself in front of them.
There are probably hundreds of other reasons why 97% of the people who start a network marketing business fail and I could probably go on all day listing them for you but to sum it up, people are lazy in general and expect the old saying to be true, “if you build it they will come”, this is the furthest from the truth in network marketing.
Why do you think that only 3% of the people in network marketing succeed and are the ones making all the money, taking all the luxury trips and living the life you have always dreamed about?
It’s simple, they are doing the exact opposite of what you are doing and have been told to do, you have been told to chase down leads and try to convince them why they need what you are selling while the top 3% have leads chasing them and asking them for more information on the products they are selling.
So how to do you get targeted leads to chase you?
It’s simple, you position yourself as the go to person for your specific network marketing opportunity online, so that when people search for more information about your company, they find you.
Ok, maybe it’s a easier said than done but that is where people like me come in, my goal is not to get you to sign up with me in my network marketing company, I already have plenty of people doing that everyday, instead my goal is to help as many people as possible learn the skill set that will separate them from the 97% of people who fail at network marketing and move into that elite top 3%.
