10 Best Free Blogging Tools

Did you know that a Google search for blogging tools results in over 30 million results?

30,000,000!!!

That’s insane but the reality is bloggers are always looking for tools and software to make them more efficient and get them back to living their life.

I can remember a time when I spent as much as 10 hours a day parked in front of my computer writing blog posts and keeping up with my social media accounts.

Kinda sounds like a job!

The money money was good but I knew there had to be a way to get the same results while not becoming a slave to my blog.

I found several blogging tools that could take care of most of the tasks that were keeping me tied to my computer all day and allowed me to focus on creating killer content then letting the tools do all the heavy lifting from there.

Today I use many free and paid blogging tools to help keep my blog running smooth and keep me spending more time with my family.

Below you will find a list of the 10 best free blogging tools that I feel every blogger should be using.

10 Best Free Blogging Tools

It is very hard to narrow this list down to just 10 as I think there are so many great free blogging tools out there, if you have one not listed, leave me a comment below and I will add it to the list.

Google

Google has a ton of free blogging tools to help make running your blog much easier, my favorite are:

  1. Gmail – we all know what Gmail is but did you know that you can quickly access all of your email accounts from any platform on one Gmail account?

Setting this up just takes a few minutes and then you can save a ton of time by not having to log into each email account separately.

Your Gmail account will also get you free access to all of Google’s free tools.

2. Google Analytics – tracks your website performance and provides many useful site statistics you can use to see what is working and what is not.

3. YouTube – owned by Google, YouTube is one of the most popular sites in the world and a great free resource for bloggers.

With YouTube, not only can you host your videos for free but you greatly increase your blog’s reach by tapping into this site’s amazing traffic.

4. Google Search Console – formerly Google Keyword Planner, you can quickly search and analyze which keywords to use for your next blog post.

5. Google Webmasters Tools – monitor your site’s performance through the eyes of Google.

6. Google Docs – create sharable documents online, keep lists of blog post ideas, make fancy charts and graphs for your blog readers.

7. Google Calendar – with Google Calendar you can keep track of your content strategy, plan out your day, set to do lists and so much more.

WordPress

WordPress is by far the best content management system and one of the top blogging tools I have ever used.

Despite being super user friendly and easy to learn, WordPress also has the power to adapt to virtually any changes you want to make with your blog.

With thousands of free themes and plugins to choose from, you can quickly build the high performance blog of your dreams in no time.

MailChimp

MailChimp is an email management system you can use to build and maintain your email list.

You have probably already heard, “the money is in the list” and MailChimp has everything you need to run a successful email marketing campaign from your blog.

Unlike their competitors, MailChimp is completely free until you reach 2,000 mail subscribers which is great for all new bloggers.

Partner MailChimp with popular free mail plugins like MailPoet to create stunning email newsletters sure to impress your subscribers.

IFTTT

If This Then That is a bloggers best friend.

IFTTT is basically a free virtual assistant that will take a lot of time consuming tasks off your plate so you can focus on what matters, creating killer content.

With IFTTT you create recipes or applets based on what tasks you want the software to take care for you.

Want to bookmark your new blog post or video on numerous social bookmarking sites?

Ever wished there was something that could automate posting to Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest?

These are just some of the tasks IFTTT can do for you, check it out for yourself and see how many applets you can create to make your life easier.

Photo Editing and Compression

Another great free blogging tool is the many awesome sites that offer free photo editing so you can make your images look anyway you want them to look.

Check out the photo above, it was edited with Befunky.com a free photo editing site I use all the time.

Some of the other sites I like to use for free photo editing are:

  • Fotor.com
  • Pixlr.com
  • PicMonkey.com
  • FotoFlexer.com

Once you get your photos exactly the way you want them, it’s time to compress your images before uploading them to your blog.

There are two great sites for this, they are actually the same site

  • Compresspng.com
  • Compressjpg.com

Now that you have your images edited exactly the way you want them, compressed them and uploaded to your blog, now it’s time to compress them some more.

There are two great free WordPress plugins that will compress your images even further, WPSmush and EWWW Image Optimizer.

I use both plugins on this blog but only activate them about once every two weeks to compress any new images I have uploaded then deactivate them again.

Blog Post Ideas

Constantly coming up with new blog post ideas can be a challenge for most bloggers and can leave you wondering what to blog about.

Fortunately there are many great resources out there that can help inspire your next great blog post.

I’m not sure if most people would consider these blogging tools but they are a vital part of blogging for me so I consider them blogging tools.

Here are three sites you have probably already heard of but aren’t using to gather blog post ideas.

  • Pinterest
  • Flipboard
  • StumbleUpon

There are hundreds if not thousands of other sites you could use to find blog post ideas but I found that narrowing it down it just a few reliable resources is enough to get the creative juices flowing.

I also recently started using another great free blogging tool to find trending topics online to blog about, BuzzSumo is on many bloggers top 10 free blogging tools lists.

Typically I will spend about 30 minutes once a week to scour these sites looking for at least 10 blog post ideas I can add to my ongoing list of future blog posts.

As a blogger, part of your content strategy should be to keep a list of future blog post ideas so you know what you are going to write about before you ever sit down to write.

Skype

Skype is another great free blogging tool which gives you a great way to communicate with your blog readers, record interviews you can post to your blog or just have a text conversation with potential customers.

Skype does offer services which are not free but there is no charge for text chat, audio conversations or video conferencing.

Instead of giving out my personal phone number to my blog readers, I give my Skype handle so they can initiate a conversation with me or ask me any questions they have.

You can contact me on Skype anytime, my handle is jwoitena.

Gravatar

Ever noticed when you comment on someone’s blog that your image is a generic grey person while others have custom images of themselves?

They are using Gravatar to add an image to their email address so when they comment on a blog using their email address, their image shows up next to their comment.

Setting up our Gravatar account only takes a minute or two and you can choose and crop the image you want to use quickly and easily.

Cloudflare

Cloudflare is a free CDN – content delivery network which serves your blog’s content to your blog’s visitors from the closest of their 105 data centers.

What does all this mean?

Much faster page load speed for your blog’s visitor which leads to a much better user experience.

Think about it, your blog’s hosting typically only has one data center, which means all of your blog’s traffic is serviced from the same location regardless of where in the world your traffic comes from.

This is fine as long as that traffic is coming from locations close to where your hosting company is located but the further away your blog’s traffic is coming from, the slower the load speed.

With Cloudflare, it doesn’t matter if your blog’s traffic is coming from California, China or the southern tip of Australia, your content will be delivered to them from the closest data center in

Wealthy Affiliate

I added Wealthy Affiliate to my list of free blogging tools because a bunch of tools don’t mean much if you really don’t know what you are doing with your blog.

Wealthy Affiliate is known for being the #1 affiliate marketing training program available, but did you know there is a ton of free blog training and free blogging tools available inside the members area as well?

If you are looking to turn your blog into a money generating machine but not sure how, Wealthy Affiliate is worth checking out.

I struggled for years to make money online and tried nearly every training course on the market before finding Wealthy Affiliate.

Wealthy Affiliate taught me what I could not find in any of the training programs I had purchased prior to joining, it taught me a proven step by step formula for success which I am still using to this day.

You can join Wealthy Affiliate for free and stay a free member for as long as you would like.
